Cumin, a warm- bitter flavored spice, has various useful components in abundance such as Iron, Calcium, Vitamin A and B complex, Manganese, Magnesium, Dietary Fiber and Thiamine. Fats and Carbohydrates are also present but in a small amount.

Various researches have illustrated the usefulness of cumin against diseases like common cold, diabetes, respiratory and skin disorders, piles, insomnia, anemia etc. However it is a great medicine especially for stomach disorders.

One important use of cumin is as a natural laxative. Long-term constipation results in lacerations (piles) down the anal tract. Dietary fiber intake is a must to prevent or cure piles (hemorrhoids). A 100g serving of cumin provides with 42% of dietary fiber. Cuminaldehyde, a component of essential oil in cumin, enables cumin to ease down the bowel movements. Furthermore, proper digestion helps avoid piles in first place.

Indigestion, Gastritis and Lose Motion:

The magnesium- content and oily components of cumin aid our salivary glands in accelerating the primary digestion in mouth. In the intestinal section, another compound, Thymol makes the glands secrete more enzymes and acids for the complete digestion of food.
